 About the Gila Wilderness & U-Trail…
The Gila Wilderness & National Forest…America’s largest wilderness area has produced some of the biggest bulls in the world. We feel this is attributed to some important factors…
The sheer vastness of this region gives elk practically unlimited range. Excellent water, feed and cover help produce large herd numbers. In addition, the Gila Wilderness with its southerly location makes for a longer growing season, hence larger antler size than normal.
U-Trail has been riding and exploring the Gila Wilderness for over 20 years. We know the nooks and crannies of this magnificent elk habitat area. We study elk movements and behavior from April to well in November.
This give U-Trail a significant advantage, as we are able to observe elk movement and behavior all summer long – long before the hunts begin. And by September, we have an excellent idea as to where the bulls are and their tendencies.
U-Trail has enjoyed one of the most successful hunting rates in the Gila Wilderness. This is a result of a good working relationship between the hunters and our Gila Wilderness guiding experience. We position hunters in range of respectable bulls and the results speak for themselves. Feel free to contact some of our hunter partners.
U-Trail Riding Animals…experienced, tough and seasoned. We are able to go deeper, into hard-to-reach regions to give our hunters better odds against the bigger bulls. This gives us the flexibility of covering a wider range of territories.
U-Trail Guides & Wranglers…provides the best in experience and professionalism. Each guide has over 25 years of elk guiding and calling experience. Their goal is to locate the size bull you have in mind – trophy or otherwise. Wrangles are fully experienced in handling stock and packing elk.

 Elk Drop Camps…
We feel the best advantage for hunters is up on the higher elevation mesa’s, near springs or running creeks. Our drop camp hunters have been completely satisfied with the locations we have suggested. Will place hunters in any desired location of their choice within 10 miles of the trailhead. Inquire to drop camps further than 10 miles.
Plus, we are able to continually check on camps to see if any additional services or help is needed. Hunting locations are selected on a first come, first service bases. Soft scabbards for bows are recommended. Scabbards for rifles are recommended.

Elk Packing: $250.00 per elk.

Semi-Guided Elk Hunts…
Semi-Guided elk hunts are designed for Do-It-Yourselfer’s hunters. U-Trail provides a full camp with riding stock, pack animals, tents, kitchen and cook. We provide horseback service to assist hunters in increasing the hunting territory
plus spike camps.
Wranglers are constantly available to pack elk and provide horseback service. Meals are home cooked, tasty and plentiful. Menu’s can be discussed in advanced.
Show up with your personal gear and we provide the rest. Hunting areas are selected on a first come, first service basis. Archery 7 day hunts -- longer hunts available.

Fully Guided Elk Hunts…
Enjoy the advantage of having your elk hunt fully guided with full camp/horseback service. Knowledgeable and experienced guides bring home the elk of your choice – trophy or otherwise. Hard working and professional, U-Trial guides have over the years enjoyed great success in archery or rifle hunts. Hunters are welcome to contact the guides before the hunts to discuss a hunting plan.
